         Jim grew up in East Lyme, CT where he started playing the trumpet in 1970 at the age  of 9. He was drawn to the trumpet after hearing Al Hirt play the theme from The Green Hornet, and several recordings of Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass.

 

         After high school, and before college, Jim toured England and Europe as a featured soloist with the Ambassadors of Connecticut Big Band. Since graduating from music school, he has worked professionally as an arranger, conductor, bandleader, performer and the owner/operator of Stewart's Music, L.L.C. in Niantic, Ct. 

 

         His musical experiences cover a variety of styles including Big Band, Dixieland, 60's - 70's Show Band, German Band, and Musical Theater. He has lead serveral very successful bands of his own including the Jim Stewart Orchestra, the Strawberry Rhubarb Dixie Jamboree, and Fritz's Oktoberfest Band. Jim has had the pleasure and honor of performing with many artists including Jazz Trombonist Bill Watrous, Actress Carol Channing, comedian Henny Youngman, and has toured the Caribbean, Central and South America with the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra under the direction of Buddy Morrow, and in 2005 performed at the George W. Bush's Stars and Stripes Inaugural  Ball in Washington D.C.

 

          Jim has never been more excited about any of his bands than he is about his new band,

                                       JIM STEWART'S JUMP SWING FEVER ORCHESTRA.
